Halien of the Month: Rachel

For our first installment of "Halien of the Month," we are excited to feature one of Haley's biggest fans, Rachel! An avid Haley concertgoer and listener, Rachel created Haley's fan page HaleyReinhartNews.com and loves to connect with other Haliens at Haley's shows (She's been to 22 of them!). Learn more about Rachel in her interview below!

Where do you live?
I live in Palmdale, California. It’s my hometown, about an hour away from Los Angeles!

What are your top 3 favorite things to do?
My top 3 favorite things to do would have to be zoning out and listening to music, watching football, and photography!

What do you do for a living?
I am currently the office manager of a fishing and hunting club.

Tell us what it means to you to be a fan of Haley Reinhart?
For me, if you consider yourself a “Haley fan” you must be exactly that, a fan of her as an individual, and not just as a singer. I support Haley Reinhart, not just her music. I’d truly support any direction she may decide to take in her career, whether it’s acting, or even putting out a rap album haha! Haley has proven that she can sing anything and everything, but aside from her incredible vocal talent, she is a very kind hearted and inspiring individual, who is truly beautiful inside and out. There are many aspects to Haley’s personality that I strive to be like. She has always been openly positive, easy going, free spirited, hardworking, and I can only hope to be like her one day!

Tell us about the first time you saw or heard Haley’s music? Where was it and what do you remember?
Well the first time I ever heard Haley sing was on American Idol. I liked her from the start, but the day she really won me over was when she sang “You’ve Really Got a Hold On Me”, that was when I knew this girl had something special. But outside American Idol, the first time I ever heard Haley’s original music playing in public was at the mall. I was walking around with some pretzel bites and realized “Now That You’re Here” was being played over the speakers. I had to run and sit down at a table so I could concentrate, and immediately tweet about it of course!

How do you show your fandom for Haley?
For starters, I created a separate Twitter account for Haley back in 2012 when I realized I tweet about her a little too much and didn’t want to annoy my regular followers. So I joined the awesome Halien fanbase community on Twitter. Aside from that, I have tried to attend nearly every L.A. show Haley has had since 2012. Even if she was just going to sing a few songs, I wanted to be there. I’d make the hour+ drive during typical Los Angeles awful rush hour traffic just to be able to hear her sing for a little while, and then drove all the way back home afterwards. I did this alone for years. While attending these shows, I thought these short intimate performances are just way too awesome to not be shared with the world. So I started bringing my camera to record her shows and started posting her performances to YouTube. Fans from all over the world were thanking me for sharing since they couldn’t be there, which made me very happy to see. There were always Haley gigs popping up every now and then whether they were here, or in other states that I felt people deserved to know about. It was then I decided I was going to create my own Haley news website to help get information about Haley's career out there to the world, since she didn’t have an official website of her own at the time. So I created www.haleyreinhartnews.com in 2014. It has 179,000+ hits to date! I felt instant gratification being able to help others and their love for Haley grow through my website.

What in your mind makes Haley Reinhart stand out from any other artist?
Her voice alone is a standout. Ever since I first heard it, I thought it was so unique and unlike any other I’ve heard before. Haley is so versatile and can sing any style of music, that’s what I love about her. Although she has found her own sound, which in my opinion is very different compared to what other female artists are putting out nowadays, I’ve always respected that Haley is willing to try new things, experiment, and write songs about whatever she wants to. She is constantly growing and evolving, and I respect that very much. And again, her humble and down to earth personality is very admirable to me. If you meet Haley, it doesn’t feel like you’re talking to a celebrity. She has always been very genuine and caring whenever I’ve had the chance to chat with her about her career, or just life in general. She truly cares about her fans and has managed to create great relationships and connect with so many of us. Haley seems to be able to remember any face she’s met before, even if it was just once. That is why she stands out to me.

What currently is the most played song in your music library?
Currently my most played song is Fifth Harmony’s “Work From Home” (Please don’t take my Halien fan card! It was one of the catchiest songs of 2016 and I couldn’t help myself). But not far behind it is my favorite song from Haley’s album Better, “Good or Bad” with 85 plays.

What’s your favorite song from Haley Reinhart and why?
My favorite song of Haley’s is “Good or Bad”. I can’t really explain why it’s my favorite, it just does something to me! In fangirl language, it just gives me the feels. “Good or Bad” felt like it was the first of Haley’s more mature songs she put out there. I absolutely love how it sounds on the album, it gives me a psychedelic and even theatric feeling when listening to it. I got to witness Haley debut “Good or Bad” at Room 5 in Hollywood, and I instantly fell in love. I couldn’t stop talking about that song for weeks. I happen to have a video of that amazing performance on my YouTube Channel (video below).

What is your favorite album from Haley Reinhart and why?
Well right now Haley only has two albums out, with a third one on the way. But out of the two, I’d have to say my favorite is Better. Listen Up! will always have a special place in my heart, but I definitely don’t listen to it as much anymore (considering I’ve probably played it from start to finish over 500 times since it was all we had to listen to for 4 years). What I love more about Better is the lyrics. As I said earlier, a lot of the songs were more mature and sensual, and I loved that, considering I have grown up a lot since her first album came out as well. Better has a great variety of different sounding songs that are all amazing in their own way. The first time I listened to the album as a whole, it literally took me on a journey. I knew my reaction to the album would probably be a rollercoaster of emotions, and it turned out to be exactly that. So I decided to record myself hearing it for the very first time, which you can watch below.

Haley frequently collaborates with Scott Bradlee’s Postmodern Jukebox… what’s your favorite cover by the group and Haley so far and why?
I truly love all of Haley’s PMJ covers, it’s hard to pick just one because they are all great and so different from one another. You can’t deny the incredible success “Creep” has brought to Haley, and it’s the most watched Postmodern Jukebox video of all time! But if I had to choose, I’m going to go with probably the unpopular opinion, which would be Haley’s first PMJ collab and debut, Tove Lo’s “Habits”. To this day I listen to it the most compared to the rest of her covers for whatever reason.

Haley voices the character of Bill on Netflix’s F is for Family? Did you ever picture Haley being the voice of a little boy?
I did actually! It’s hard to NOT notice Haley’s unique and raspy talking voice. When I first found out that she was voicing a little boy on a cartoon show I knew she’d be great at it. I was so excited for her! However it’s hard for me to not picture Haley the entire time I hear Bill’s voice on the show.

What’s your favorite episode so far?
My favorite episode of “F is for Family” is the first episode of Season 1, when Haley’s character Bill gets in huge trouble for ruining his dad’s brand new TV with a magnet. It made me laugh especially hard, because I did the exact same thing when I was a little. I was playing with magnets and was told to never put them on the TV… so me being a kid and all, I had to go and do the opposite of what I was told. Yeah, not a great idea. My TV had a big purple spot on the screen for weeks.

Are you excited for Season 2 to come out?
Of course, I can’t wait! Season 1 was hilarious, I’m excited to see what they come up with for season 2! I’ve been wanting to re-watch every episode before the new season is out. I made all my friends and family check the show out, and they all really liked it.

How do you stay connected with your favorite artists?
Thankfully this day in age, staying connected is easier than ever thanks to social media. Of course I follow Haley on Twitter, Instagram, etc. I tweet her from time to time, and it's always awesome to get a response from her. Twitter is a great way to kind of stay in touch. Aside from that, my advice to everyone is to just stay passionate and try to see your favorite artists as often as you can. You never know if or when you may lose that opportunity! I’ve been very fortunate to have been able to meet some of my idols, and see them in concert multiple times. They are memories that will last a lifetime, and that in my opinion makes it worth it.

What’s your favorite piece of Haley Reinhart memorabilia?
I own quite a few awesome Haley related items (many of which are unofficial) that I’ve been lucky enough to receive thanks to other amazing Haliens I’ve met. I have this sparkly art piece a fellow fan I know through Twitter named Cecilia made hanging on my wall, it’s so pretty! I also have a few photos of Haley that she’s autographed for me, thanks to a fan named Greg who is a photographer that prints them out gives them away. I also managed to grab Haley’s handwritten set list from a private show I got to attend in Newport Beach, which she signed for me as well. And of course my "Can't Help Falling In Love" T-shirt I bought from haleyreinhart.com!

What was your first concert ever, the last concert you’ve seen and what will be the next?
My first concert I ever went to was Hoobastank, they played at our local fair when I was in 9th grade (2005). The last concert I attended was Haley’s Better Tour, back in June of 2016! I currently have tickets to see Metallica and Avenged Sevenfold play the Rose Bowl this July, and tickets to see Lady Gaga at the Forum a few weeks after that.

How many times have you seen Haley Reinhart live?
Too many times to count! But me being the person that I am, I’m going to try and count anyways: 22 times. I have seen Haley perform at least 22 times! I’m spoiled, I know.

Did you attend any shows on the Haley’s recent U.S. Tour? If so, which ones?
We waited YEARS for Haley’s very first headlining tour, I wouldn’t have missed it for the world! I attended the June 6th show at The El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles. I also had tickets to attend the San Diego show the very next day, but unfortunately that didn’t work out for me.

What’s the furthest you’ve traveled to see a show?
I drove 4 hours (260 miles) to Las Vegas to see Haley perform at the Cosmopolitan hotel back in 2013.

Tell us something about Haley Reinhart that a lot of other fans may not know?
The first thing that comes to mind is Haley and Casey’s original song that they wrote together called “You Were There”. The song is actually a combination of dreams they both had, which I think is pretty cool. Also, for those who may not know, Haley can not only sing, but she’s a great comedian, AND she can also rap, yodel, whistle, and beatbox. Seriously, the girl can do it all! Here is some video proof that Haley can beatbox:

If you could tell Haley Reinhart one thing, what would it be?
I’ve been lucky enough to probably tell Haley everything I’ve wanted her to know. Over the years I’ve told her so much about myself and my life. What Haley should always know is that she truly helps people with her voice and her music. A few years ago I dealt with some of the worst anxiety of my life. I couldn’t even leave my house without wanting to throw up. During those dark times, Haley was one of the few things that helped me get out and live life a little bit. Thanks to her, I eventually got over it. Even though it was extremely difficult and almost torturous to get through at times, I didn’t ever want to miss an opportunity to see one of Haley’s shows. I could feel like I was going to die of a panic attack, but the second I saw her and got to hear her sing, it all went away. She means a lot to so many of us fans, just the mere thought of Haley’s existence helps some people get through their day, I know this for a fact. There is something so positive and bright about Haley, we’re all so lucky to have her in our lives, and it’s even more amazing that she is always willing to return the love we give to her. I remember after Haley learned about my anxiety and struggles she said to me “You are limitless”. I will never forget that. Thank you for being you.

Do you stay in touch with other Haliens? Tell us how your mutual fandom has helped you connect with others.
Yes, so many! Thanks to Haley, I have met so many awesome people of all ages along the way, and most I have stayed in touch with ever since I met them. We always hangout at her shows and have a blast together. I’ve connected with so many incredible individuals, many of which who have been so kind and caring even about my own personal life. This last year in particular was very rough for me. I was diagnosed with Pancreatitis and was dealing with a lot of constant pain and hospital stays. I just recently had surgery. Throughout all of this, Haliens were some of the very first people to express their love and well wishes for me. They’ve cheered me up when I needed it most, and I am forever grateful to have these people in my life. Many of them I’ve never even met, yet I talk to them on a daily basis! I’ve been lucky to experience some amazing things thanks to other Haliens. I may be biased, but I think we are the best, most entertaining, weirdest, passionate, and most loyal fanbase in the whole universe. Don't ever change, Haliens!

Haley Reinhart is currently recording her new studio album… any guesses as to the title of the album and what it will sound like?
I’m about 97% positive that the title of Haley’s new album is going to be “What’s That Sound?”, because Haley’s been hashtagging it in all her recent posts about the album. I for one happen to love it if it is indeed the title. Many of us have figured out that if you say all of Haley’s album titles from newest to oldest, it creates this sentence: “What’s That Sound? Better listen up!” …guess we’ll find out soon!

Is there anything else you would like to share with Haley fans?
One of my favorite things I’ve accomplished as a fan is help bring Haliens together to get their messages to Haley. Back when Haley released her music video for “Show Me Your Moves”, I had the idea to create a huge card filled with pictures and messages from as many fans as I could to congratulate her. I got messages from people all across the country and world, and I was even able to include Haley's parents, sister, and friends. It took many hours of hard work but I managed to finish the massive card full of love and was able to give it to Haley at a show a few weeks after the music video came out. Haley loved the card so much, she wasn’t expecting such a gift at all. Months after I had given her the card I found out that she had it displayed in her apartment and showed it off to all her friends when they came over, which of course made me very happy to hear!
