November Halien of the Month: Lisa
Meet November 2017 Halien of the Month Lisa! She's a fellow Chicagoan, has seen Haley perform live 9 times and is also a huge Beatles fan! Read her interview below.
What part of the country/World do you live in?
I am from Lombard, IL –a suburb of Chicago which is about 20 miles (40-50 minutes) south of Wheeling—Haley’s hometown.
What are your top 3 favorite things to do?
I love to play and cuddle with my two dogs (Sgt Pepper and Abbey Rose), spend time with my family and friends, and putting together jigsaw puzzles. My favorite puzzles to do are 1000 pieces or 1500 pieces.
What do you do for a living?
I work in a local grocery store called Jewel Osco in the bakeshop.
Tell us what it means to you to be a fan of Haley Reinhart?
I love supporting Haley because I feel a connection with her and her music. It is so exciting to watch as her career expands with new experiences and adventures. Haley and I are only three years apart so I feel like we have grown up together.
Tell us about the first time you saw or heard Haley’s music? Where was it and what do you remember?
The first time I discovered Haley was on American Idol. On the night she became a part of the Top 24, I saw a message from a friend who posted a picture on Facebook. My friend said she knew Haley from an event in Chicago which I also attend. I soon realized that Haley and I had several mutual friends from the Chicagoland area, and probably attended this festival together and didn’t even realize it! That night was very exciting for me and it was the moment I began supporting her musical career.
The first time I heard Haley’s music in a public environment was shortly after Listen Up! was released. I remember I was at work and I heard Wonderland play over the loud speaker. I immediately started to be really excited, but I had to stay calm around my manager and customers. It played in the song rotation for a few months, and it always made me so happy during work. I have also heard Can’t Help Falling in Love on the radio a few times while driving, which is awesome!
How do you show your fandom for Haley?
I have bought all three albums, and I try to attend as many of her concerts as I can. I have also posted a few videos and promoted her albums on my Facebook page.
What in your mind makes Haley Reinhart stand out from any other artist?
Haley voice is very unique, because it is so recognizable. The best example is when she sang “Time of My Life” for the Wal-Mart commercial. I saw the video on twitter and I knew it was her right away. Haley stands out from other artists because she can sing any song from any genre or decade to make it her own.
Another way Haley stands out is with the way she appreciates and interacts with her fans. She always gives off the best warm feeling, and makes everyone feel so comfortable. Her whole family is so genuine, and you can always feel the love when you are with them. I will never forget one moment from the Better Album Release Party. As everyone was packing up to leave the restaurant, Haley gave me a big hug and said “Thank you for coming”. I thought that was so sweet, and a heart-warming ending to a great weekend. When I went to the party, I brought a large cookie cake to celebrate the release of Better. My original plan was to bake it myself and I even bought a fancy cookie pan. I tried to make it at home a few days before the party, but it did not turn out well at all. I asked my co-worker friend to decorate one for me in our Bakeshop at work. Haley loved the cookie!
What currently is the most played song in your music library?
I have grown up listening to classic rock from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s, so many of the songs on my IPod are from The Beatles, Tom Petty, and several other artists. The Beatles have always been a big part of my life and childhood. Over the past month I have become addicted to, and very in love with Tom Petty. His music and videos have been playing non-stop since his recent passing. I would really love to hear Haley sing Wildflowers one day! It is such a beautiful song, and it would suit her voice perfectly.
What’s your favorite song from Haley Reinhart and why?
Every song is awesome! This is a hard question. Can I do it by album?
Listen Up!—Hit the Ground Running: It is a song that makes you feel empowered. The lyrics and dance beat give me energy and I feel like I can do anything when the song is playing.
Better—Love is Worth Fighting For: The lyrics and melody are so beautiful! I can tell this song means a lot to Haley, because you can feel the love and struggle of making it in the music industry. I love the orchestra and it sets the mood perfectly.
What’s That Sound?—Oh Darling: Yay Beatles! As Haley would say, it all came full circle. It has always been one of my favorite Beatle songs, and I love the way her voice has the little growls throughout the song.
What is your favorite album from Haley Reinhart and why?
Another hard question…every album is special to me in different ways. Can it be a three way tie? If I have to choose I think it would be Better because I love her combination of beautiful and feisty lyrics. One of my favorites is from Check Please when she says “You’re real cute but you’re dumb. It’s like I don’t even know you”. That part always makes me laugh and it shows her feisty/sassy side!
Haley frequently collaborates with Scott Bradlee’s Postmodern Jukebox… what’s your favorite cover by the group and Haley so far and why?
My favorite covers are All about That Bass and Creep. All about That Bass is a fun one because the group is having a great time together, and Casey is so funny with his crazy bass playing! Creep is one of my favorites because she sings it so pretty and effortlessly.
Haley voices the character of Bill on Netflix’s F is for Family... Did you ever picture Haley being the voice of a little boy?
Haley is multi-talented and can change her voice in many different ways so I knew she would be great. I would love to see her become involved in other cartoon shows and animated movies! It would also be great if she hosted (and performed too!) on Saturday Night Live.
What’s your favorite episode so far?
I think my favorite episode is the very first episode of Season 1 because I love when Bill breaks the tv with the magnet. It was a funny episode.
Season 2 premiered on Netflix recently, have you watched all the episodes already?
I have not seen them all yet, but I plan to catch up with it soon.
How do you stay connected with your favorite artists?
I follow a few of my favorite artists on Twitter and on Facebook. It’s amazing how much has changed in technology to where you can find anything and stay connected with people. I have also met Casey Abrams 3 times! The first time was with Haley at the Lights Festival, and then I saw him twice in a local bar about 20 minutes away from my house. It has been 4 years since I last saw him. Hopefully he will come back soon! Casey also gives the best hugs like a fuzzy teddy bear!
What’s your favorite piece of Haley Reinhart memorabilia?
I have 3 autographed CDs, 2 autographed t-shirts, 2 autographed pictures, and handwritten lyrics to Show Me Your Moves. I also won a contest through twitter to win a copy of Lucid magazine with Haley on the front cover.
I remember the day I received my package of Listen Up! with the signed CD and picture book. I had a day off of work so I was watching the tracking number and waiting for the UPS truck to come all day. Around 5pm I was bored of waiting so I took my dogs for a walk around the block. As we were turning the corner I saw the UPS truck go down the street. I was so excited I made my dogs run so fast, and they didn’t know what was going on. When we came home from the walk, I opened the package right away and put the CD into my computer for the first time. A few days later I saw her perform at Hard Rock Cafe in Downtown Chicago!
What was your first concert ever, the last concert you’ve seen and what will be the next?
I think my first concert was Paul McCartney in 2005! He was at the United Center in Chicago. My family and I had seats in the highest section of the venue and we could barely see him. The last concert I went to was Haley’s What’s That Sound tour! I am not sure when my next concert will be. I really want to see Paul McCartney again. Next time I will definitely get seats close to the stage. I have also seen Ringo a few times! I really wish I had seen Tom Petty in concert….watching all his concert videos on YouTube and DVD has been so much fun. I love you Petty! <3
How many times have you seen Haley Reinhart live?
I have seen Haley perform live 9 times. I have also seen her at 5 non-performance social gatherings! I am lucky enough to live in the Chicagoland area so I have been able to attend special events such as private parties.
My first Haley event was her Idol Homecoming on May 14, 2011. My family went to Wheeling to see her speak at the Village Hall, and then later to perform at Arlington Racetrack. We stood in the rain for about 3 or 4 hours, and it was a lot of fun. I made a giant orange poster and you can actually see it very clearly on the video that was shown on tv. I went up closer to the front where she was speaking to try to get pictures, and of course my camera died when I was taking a video.
The first time I met Haley was on November 19, 2011. Haley and Casey performed together in Downtown Chicago on Michigan Avenue for the Magnificent Mile Lights Festival. It was way too crowded for the parade later that night, and we ended up getting lost in the city when trying to leave the crowd which was really scary. Other than getting lost, it was a really fun day!
One day Haley actually came to my hometown local mall which is less than 10 minutes from my house! It was a signing to promote an event to promote safe teen driving. I met Steve that day and he took a video of me with Haley. Thank you Steve!
Did you attend any shows on Haley’s 2016 U.S. or 2017 European Tour? If so, which ones?
No unfortunately I did not. I did not have transportation to the June 14, 2016 concert in Chicago, and I was too nervous to ask for a ride. Anthony (aka Tusk) was kind enough to surprise me with a DVD of the show so I am still able to watch it and feel like I was there. Thank you Tusk!
Did you attend any of the shows on the What’s That Sound? Tour?
Yes I went to Lincoln Hall in Chicago on November 5! It was one of my first times with the VIP experience, and it was awesome! Haley saw me right away when I came into the sound check party, and gave me a shout-out on stage in front of everyone. She caught me by surprise and I didn’t know what to do. I think I just stood there and looked like an idiot for a minute. The whole day was so much fun. We had a Halien Carpool, so I did not have to drive and it was fun to all go together. Thank you to Steve and Ken for organizing the carpool and letting me ride with you. I know have thanked you both so many times already, but I truly appreciate it!
What’s the furthest you’ve traveled to see a concert?
Due to my fear of driving highways or in the crazy Chicago city streets, I have not traveled very far to see the shows. The furthest I have traveled was to Lincoln Hall and Buffalo Grove which are both about 25 miles away. I would love to go to Los Angeles one day. I have always wanted to take a road trip to California, and watch the scenery change from flat to mountains.
Tell us something about Haley Reinhart that a lot of other fans may not know?
Everyone knows that Haley is a huge Beatle fan, but did you know she also goes to Beatlefest? Haley and her family have been attending for many years, which is how we have many mutual friends. I have seen her there twice in the past 6 years. It is a lot of fun because it is one big party and everyone sings Beatle songs all night in a jam session.
If you could tell Haley Reinhart one thing, what would it be?
Haley…Thank you so much for everything these past 6 years! I don’t think I have ever said a real full sentence to you due to my awkwardness and being nervous. You are of my biggest inspirations, and listening to your music makes me so happy. I have loved seeing your dreams come true, and I can’t wait to see what the future brings. I am so proud of all you have accomplished so far.
Do you stay in touch with other Haliens? Tell us how your mutual fandom has helped you connect with others.
Yes I am not very active on social media, but I enjoy seeing everyone’s tweets and pictures. The best decision I made was to join Haleyfans.com because that was where I first connected with Haliens. I have met a lot of Haliens at Haley’s shows, and everyone is so kind. It always feels like a family reunion when we all get together. My first experience meeting a large group of Haliens was at Buffalo Grove Days in 2013. We also had a party in Wheeling the next day. I made a cake for Haley’s birthday and she loved it.
Haley Reinhart has released her new album What’s That Sound?… give us your top 3 tracks from the album and why?
This is a hard question because I love all 3 original songs and the 60’s covers. I think my favorites are:
-Let’s Start: It fits perfectly with the 60’s theme! It makes me want to dance around all day and spread love around the world.
-Time of the Season: I love how Haley and Casey’s voices blend so perfectly together! It has always been one of my favorite songs from the 60’s.
-Sunny Afternoon: Scott Bradlee adds the perfect touch with his piano, and I love the jazzy feel to this song!

It looks like she is having so much fun dancing around in that beautiful house! I love the sassiness with the ripping apart the flower and all the pretty outfits she is wearing.
